Contrary to all the free time that I SHOULD have (you know, not blogging and all), I have not done one thing to rearrange life for this Girl growing in my belly.
I'm full term TOMORROW.
I have the next 7 weekends booked up.
She's going to have to come during the week or something else is going to have to get shoved to the side.
Anyone want to come move my toddler from the nursery to the toddler room (currently the computer/TV/manly things room) and clean out a closet or 4 for me? Wash up a mess of pink and purple very small clothes? Research, buy, and prepare a few newborn diaper covers to go with my nifty slighly used newborn sized prefold cloth diapers? Bring the cradle down from teh attic, wipe off, and install appropiate sheets?

Wow! That went fast. I wish I had known you were CDing - I had two great nb covers and two GMD infant fitteds that had been stagnating on diaperswappers but just sold recently. I'd have sent them up if I had known. I am a horrible cd failure :P I wish you and your new LO a (relatively speaking) easy and peaceful birth!
It's YOU! With a new name!
Fast? You're telling me! I swear, it was just yesterday I was thinking "no, this can't be right... I don't get pregnant easily OR quickly!" And today, I have a giant belly that wiggles aroundlike it has a life of it's own. :D
I'm not entirely sure how dedicated I am to the whole CD thing, but I have these and might as well try them out. I do need a few covers though, and would take your recommendations, failure or no. :)
AND didn't we talk about slings/baby wearing? Did you try ring slings and/or mai teis? Do you have a preference one way or the other? or both?
Had I not been a crazy postpartum lady, I would have really liked the Cotnwrap and Litewrap covers. I like the Litewrap better because it has a smooth inner surface that is easier to wipe off. Bummis Super Brites and Thirsties were also nice for that reason. I also preferred fitteds to prefolds. The GMD infant fitteds were really nice - all cotton and they did fit DD well when she was smaller. That said, DD was not in the newborn size all that long since she was an 8.5 pounder to begin with.
While we fizzled out on CDing, we were entirely successful babywearers :) I think that the mei-tai is the most versatile carrier available and would definitely work for a newborn. You would have to froggy the new LO until she'd be big enough to go legs out, and you may have to roll up the bottom a little bit to make it shorter, but it's totally doable. Check on youtube and I bet you'll find an example of wearing nb's in an MT. That said, if we ever have another one I would love to try a ring sling. In theory I can see how that would be a fantastic newborn carrier, and there are so many pretty ones to choose from.
Have you ever tried a stretchy wrap? Those are also great for the newborn stage but the tying on is a bit of a learning curve. If you don't have one and would like to give it a try, talk to Gauntlets and see if she is done with my Sleepy Wrap. If so we could arrange for it to make its way to you by mail.
Oh! Are you using cloth?! I'm so excited! Do you have a snappi? You can buy them off greenmountaindiapers.com and they're SOOO much better than pins. Thirstie's dou covers are great and will grow with her. Bummi's covers are my go-to covers always. Fitteds are great, but it's a pain to have all those snaps do to. Bagshot Row Bamboos (BSRB's) are my FAVORITE. They're SUPER soft and you can snappi them. They come with an extra liner for heavy wetters and overnight. They're expensive brand new but diaperswappers.com has a gently used for sale board where I got a lot of our fitteds from for cheaper.
I CANNOT believe you're technically full term! Time goes by fast, doesn't it! You don't really have to rush to rearrange everything just yet. Take this time to relax and enjoy your precious only child while you can. I'm sure "Ralphy" will be in your room for a while so there's really no need to set up her room1! Old wive's tales say it's bad luck to have everything ready before a baby's born, anyway. ;)
WHEE! You're going to have a baby!
One of my favorite things about babies is that they really don't give a rip what the house looks like when they get home. Neither do they care if their pajamas are a couple sizes too big (or small). Babies are the least judgmental people alive.
Eight-year-olds are another story. :D
several days with no post. We're watching you!! ;-D
shrew - a couple of days with no posts means NOTHING 'round here. :)
gauntlets - my sister is throwing a "book sprinkle" for little Ralphy this coming Sunday. I almost put you on the invite list.
